I have devoted entire weekends to What Not To Wear marathons more often than I should admit. Like, a lot. And of all the style advice that seeped into my brain, I remember Stacy London telling almost every woman on the show to avoid horizontal stripes. At. All. Costs.
Sorry, Stacy, but I’m going to have to disagree on this one. I can’t get enough of them. I was killing time in a boutique in Park Slope over the weekend and found myself holding two striped dresses and eyeing a striped tote, while wearing a striped shirt. Someone help me.
You can’t get much stripier (is that a word?) than J.Crew, so that’s the inspiration for my nails today.

For my accent nail, I began with a navy blue polish and made small white stripes with a thin nail art brush. I painted the rest of my nails with yellow polish, and finished it all off with a glossy top coat. I made sure to come in at the end with an eyeliner brush dipped in remover to clean up the edges – my stripes often go a bit past my nail and onto my skin.
Is Stacy London right? Are horizontal stripes a fashion no-no? Let me know in the comments.
